Week 6 – Island of the Blue Dolphins 
1) barrier: something material that blocks or is intended to block passage
2) outpost: an outlying branch or position of a main organization or group
3) landowners: an owner of land
4) unique: able to be distinguished from all others of its class or type
5) materials: an object that can be used for building or making something  
6) carved:  to cut with care or precision
7) tanned: describes leather made by soaking animal skins in chemicals
8) ancient: of or relating to a remote period, to a time early in history, or to those living in such a period or time
9) cruise: to move or proceed speedily, smoothly, or effortlessly
10) banquet: a meal held in recognition of some occasion or achievement
11) smoldered: to burn sluggishly, without flame, and often with much smoke
