Monday 25 September 2023

Hi Parents,

With one day’s rest we are back in school!

This week we are starting our exam weeks, and most of the students looked prepared. We have our oral exam and listening exams this week, and next week, will be our written exam. The homework I am giving is review homework. It is up to the students how they prefer to review. They can practice vocabulary by writing it out, but it is not expected from them. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Warm regards

Teacher Steph

Saturday 23 September 2023

Hi Parents,

Oh no! We had to work on a Saturday! 😉

On Monday I will return yesterday's unit test. Today read a story and answered some comprehension questions. During exam week they will definitely be asked to listen/read a random story, and answer some questions, hence the practice with the extra time we had. We also looked at exploding ants, in preparation of our next unit which is about ants.

I asked the students to prepare for the listening, oral, and written exam. For the oral exam the students must prepare around a two-minute speech about a big event.

I will return all the tests they've written on Monday.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Warm regards,

Mr. van der Westhuizen

 Hi Parents,

I can't wait to see all of you tomorrow. I think it will be a great opportunity to discuss how we can help the students to perform to best of their ability.

This week we finished week 3, and we have written week 3's quiz. Next week I will give out the notice for the exam scope. The homework for this weekend is to write sentences with the first five words of week 4.

Have a great weekend.

Warm regards,

Teacher Steph.

 Hi Parents,

I've returned all the unit tests. The students did well. I know some of them expected a higher score, but as I've told them, it was their first sixth grade test. As soon as they get used to my style of testing, I know that all their English scores will improve.

Please find the homework for the week underneath. Also, I gave the A2 class a challenge to design their own slide presentation for week 4's vocabulary. You can find the link to this Canva presentation underneath the homework. Each student only have to design a slide for one word. Some student will have another role to play. I've divided the class into groups. They had to discuss and decide who is doing what. I told them that ideally I want this presentation to be ready by Wednesday.

Warm regards,

Mr. van der Westhuizen
